The Introduction to Global Issues Seminar is a one semester 3-credit course required in the spring semester of the Foundation Year Program. The course introduces students to the concept and issues of globalization, with emphasis on its manifestations in Latin America. The major themes covered in the Seminar include economics, politics, sustainable development, tourism, human rights, and the environment. Students learn first-hand about the problems and possibilities of humanity by means of short field trips in Costa Rica, a two-week trip to Ecuador and a period dedicated to independent field work. In this course students explore the threats and opportunities that global issues and globalization present, local responses to these phenomena, and visions that seek a better future in this context.
Contact hours: 45 in class and in the field. |
