C) Withdrawal and Refund Policies

Students themselves must initiate formal withdrawal procedures. Failure to do so can result in loss of possible refunds or inaccurate records of academic performance (or both). Students may withdraw from one or all courses if they apply officially through the Office of the Registrar, notify all instructors and obtain written permission of their Dean.

A student who withdraws from a course in which he or she is doing satisfactory work will be given a grade of W. A student registered for a course is considered to be in attendance until the date of his or her official withdrawal.

Withdrawal from courses is permissible at any time up to the deadline as posted in the semester's Schedule of Classes as published by the Registrar. A student who is doing failing work when he or she requests authorization to withdraw may be given the grade WF. The symbol UW is assigned when a student unofficially withdraws from a course. Neither WF or UW is computed in the student's average.
Students who are on academic probation when they withdraw from all courses are not eligible for readmission without their Dean's approval.

Withdrawal Procedure

Students who wish to withdraw from one or more courses must obtain a withdrawal form from the Office of the Registrar. The form must list the course(s) to be dropped as well as the section. Students who are withdrawing from one or more but not all courses must obtain his or her professor’s signature. Withdrawal from one or more but not all courses does not need a Dean’s signature. Students withdrawing from all their courses do not need the signature of their instructors.
Students must then take the withdrawal form to the Office of the Registrar. The Registrar’s Office will indicate the percentage of charges to be dropped and process the withdrawal. A new bill will be generated.

Refunds

A student may make a written request to withdraw from one or more courses before the end of the semester. If the request is approved by his or her Dean, the student will receive a refund as indicated in the following schedule. Late withdrawal can make the student ineligible for any refund. Withdrawal before the beginning of the semester or session entitles the student to acomplete refund except for the deposit and applicable university fee. Please refer to theUniversity Bulletin, available in the admissions office, for all refund schedules.
